Title: RE: [smartBridges] aPPo stops responding--Remote Power Reset Capability???
We are planning to use Maxim/Dallas TINI cards in a backhaul net in which each node has at least two links. Each TINIs send pings to TINIs at the end of each link. The idea is that if echos are not received by a radio, the radio is rebooted. If all links are quiet, the entire node is burped, including the TINI and the local router (Soekris 4801, OBSD). The node burp trigger will be implemented as a HW watchdog. Each TINI also monitors the node's DC UPS. (Some pingers and monitors are running now; implementation of the OA scheme awaits more retrofits.)

Subject: [smartBridges] OT- Remote Power Reset Capability???

I started this quest a LONG time ago.  When it comes to head-end stations and repeater stationswe all NEED a way to do remote power reset (reboot) in the event a unit is locked upbe it the aPPo or an inline switch or a server or maybe even your broadband router.  Sohaving dial-in access is a must for me.  I cant DEPEND on IP to get the job done.

SoI am still looking.

Here is what I have found so far:

http://www.kvms.com/remote_reboot_switches.asp

http://www.shop-marketplace.com/remote.html

http://www.cpscom.com/reboot.htm    this one looks very promising!!

Anyone using any of these or have an opinion??

How could you do this from 500 miles away when the unit is
unresponsive?!?!?!

You gotta have a pretty darn long paperclip!!

I hate to keep beating up SB about this, but why not
use the "Remote Reset Feature."

Yeah, Sully- it's called a "Teleboot". The first
generation required a
modem line but the later ones (early 90's) would allow
you to address
power sockets through IP addressing and switch 'em on
and off. We used
'em a lot on old Xenix machines back in the dark
ages....

I remember that they were not cheap, but one on a tower
holding, say,
5-6 APPos might be worth the effort- if you can still
find 'em.
