For Q3, we are working on releasing the 1 and 2 radio version of the “Speedtrap”.

Most excellent... I do have two questions tho:

1) We are 6 weeks from the end of Q3... still planning on making it in that time?
2) Any feel for the 'street price' of an XO?
3) Need a beta tester? I got a spot for one right now...

Subject: RE: [smartBridges] APPO Indoor and Air NIC being discontinued?

Chris,

Please don’t be alarmed. There are no plans to discontinue the airBridge Indoor and airPoint Indoor.

As I mentioned, for last few months these two products (aPPI and aN) had low turnover. Which means very few people are using them. So we do not believe it will have much impact to our customers.

Soon we will be sharing with you the revised roadmap. There is no significant change other than timelines. Which got pushed out as you know due to the thermal issue. For Q3, we are working on releasing the 1 and 2 radio version of the “Speedtrap”. The new commercial names for them are – airPoint XO and airPoint XO2. Both are enhanced Access Point with built-in bandwidth management function. We have significantly “ruggedized” the input ports of these products. In addition we will be releasing the PoE Outdoor that incorporates lightning protection. The aBT product line will receive a face lift.

The NEXUS platform development is on track for late Q4 or early Q1 release. It will feature 2.4 and 5.x GHz radios. We would have soon completed the strategic negotiations with some critical component suppliers. That will open the way for sharing more info with you guys.

It may sound strange in the midst of all this noise. But the current noise is about the past issues. I am referring to the new shipments for past 4-6 weeks. Now our product quality is significantly better. Our production guys have done a good job. So overall I think you will like the product portfolio and the new features.

Hope this helps.

Nish

Seeing that they ripped the AirNIC the airpoint pro indoor and are laxing on the Airpoint indoor im starting to wonder if the airbridge is next... I mean looks like the entire indoor line is almost gone. Ok the airnic is covered cause the airbridge is basically the same but wait... what about those customers that don't have ethernet and only usb... guess there dead till they get a usb nic.... Hmm sb I really wish you would tell us whats going on I have been loyal but that's starting to flake right now after hearing the latest news about this dead product drop along with the previous firmware bugs and 4 rma's in the last 3 weeks, I hope this is to get us instore for improved products or something, or maybe some nexus news if its actually still in progress of design or manufaturing but right at this moment things are getting a little too shady for wisp's that are walking on the knifes edge of business plans and implementation.

Hmmmmmm.....what does this mean? As for me, I really like both these devices.....using a bunch of 'em. Much more reliable than the outdoor products. You are scaring me SmartBridges. Why are you doing this? Maybe you are going to replace them with improved versions, eh?

What are the rest of you'z guy's thinkin'?

Dave,

To my knowledge I don't think anybody has tried the type of setup you are describing. It kinds of sounds exotic. Most people would do either one aP or 2 aP setup as Billy is describing.

Regardless, just a few days ago we have decided to discontinue the airPoint PRO Indoor model (sB2500). So you should look at different alternatives.

Another model being discontinued is airNIC (sB2000). The decision has already been communicated to our distribution partners.

Sounds like you have tried this? (two antennas) Has anyone tried it and have any experience to share?

The smartBridges site says 'airPoint-PRO(tm) automatically selects the best signal'. What I am proposing is two use the two antennas in a cross polarized fashion so that the backhaul antenna can't hear the local traffic and the omni can't hear the backhaul traffic. It seems that the diversity feature would have no trouble picking the correct antenna since the 'off' antenna would be almost completely devoid of signal.

Can I get sB's thoughts on this?

Bad idea..  Using the diversity feature of the aPPI won't buy you anything and, in fact, would hurt you in allot of ways.  1) The antennas need to be "balanced", using different antennas on each port would cause wonky things to happen.  2) Your throughput would be cut in half.  3)  Your going to get sporadic connectivity and even worse throughput using unbalanced directional antennas... and a good possibility that it wouldn't work at all!

I would suggest using to aPPI's back to back wired with a crossover.  OR use two aPPO units...

Or if you simply have to use a single aPPI, use the a single antenna.

Thanks, Billy

I need to make a POE-powered sB repeater box to 'light up' an area. Since the speedTrap-2 isn't out yet (want a beta tester? <g>) I need to make one. What I envision is an aPPi running repeater mode in a NEMA box. Each SMA antenna port on the aPPi would have a pigtail to a bulkhead mounted N-type connector. To one connector I attach an 18dBi panel pointed back to the tower and to the other connector I attach a 6-9dBi omni cross-polarized to the big panel. Customers within a couple-hundred feet use an aBi thru walls to talk to the omni. Clients a little further away use aBOs with little panels pointed at the omni.

I am guessing someone has done this before... would you mind divulging the part number and supplier of the parts you used? Specifically...

NEMA box to house the aPP and pigtails?

SMA to bulkhead N-type pigtails?

I am guessing the aPPi will work on POE outside in a NEMA box? Do you have to take the aPPi board out of the factory box when you put it in the NEMA box to keep it from getting too hot? (double insulation).
