Yes. I'll give you an example of a client we installed.

The client was only 7 miles away. We fought with their
connection for quite some time. We had good numbers, 90%
RSSI and 85-90% Link Quality. But couldn't figure out why
their speed was so slow.

I decided to change antennas, and the only one I had in
my truck that day was a 19db Pac Wireless grid. So I switched
their 24db grid for that. Boom, their RSSI jumped up to 95%
and LQ went to 95%. I had the power on the radio up all the
way, but the speed was still not what it should have been.
Then just for fun I cut it down to 1/4 of the full power
and suddenly their speed test showed 2.2 Megabit.

In the end we found that the line-of-sight was very clear
and the customer was very near the center of the antenna's
vertical beam. So we were basically SCREAMING at the tower
with to much power and it was coming across as mostly noise.
Once we turned it down it became a more normal conversation
for the radios to handle, and they were happy.

"More power is not always better."

Use AMPs only at the AP, and even then, use only enough
power to put the numbers right at 36db out. (for FCC territory)
That will help prevent you from polluting the airwaves with
a lot of excess signal and noise.
