Title: RE: [smartBridges] XO
If the bandwidth management is the only difference,
then I'll stick with the stuff I've got. With bandwidth
management at the AP you've got to have a pretty robust
board in there with plenty of room to buffer packets.
Because it's going to get bombarded with stuff from the
backhaul, and from the clients, and if it's got the clients
running at 11 megabit and then choking them down to 256K,
or 512K, or 1 megabit and then sending that up the backhaul
it's got to put the excess somewhere.

If it's beefy enough, it will be an awesome product. I just
think they are trying to put to much into one box now.

The configuration of the "radio" should be all you have to
worry about. The rest of it can come from other parts of
your network infrastructure, giving you the freedom to put
whatever you like in there. I'm not saying this wont let you
do that, but why pay the extra cash for features you wont
use.

Take the current outdoor design and give me an actual AP that only
acts as an AP. Then give me a 5.8GHz radio that acts as a PtP
bridge (for backhaul). Then give me a client bridge that
only acts as a client bridge with the ability to pass multiple
MACs (not NAT them). Then give me the ability to monitor
and manage them from local or remote.

That would by my perfect gear. Sweet, simple, and inexpensive
because there isn't all that fluff built in.

Guys you miss point XO itself is a lot more than just a radio its radio ISG box and bandwidth management in one radio add the value up and the value of having it on the Wifi side of things not back at the NOC. 200 bucks more for an opening cost isn't that bad considering however I must tisk tisk the xo2 price that's pricey in my view.

I would love to have a XO2 radio, with the same features of the APPOs, at
around $400 bucks. That would be great for micro pops.  I guess I will still
stick with two APIs in a Weathertight box!
