All kinds of fun things happened today for me. The most
interesting to the general public is my war driving encounter with WalMart and
the recently discussed SST-PR-1 SSID. I spent most of today War Driving a 900
square mile area. While running down a highway that I knew did not have any APs
on the the SST-PR-1 SSID appeared on my list. A few moments later a Sears van
drives by and the signal fades away. So SST-PR-1 is the Sears service truck
name. After that I notice 15 APs pop up all made by Symbol. I look around a see
a WalMart Super center. Ah ha! The Telzons that they use to print price tags,
scan things and to other such WalMarty things with use 802.11b!!! I saw
channels 1,5 and 9 in use. I am betting that if I change my Regulatory zone to
ETSI I will also see them on CH13. They have WEP enabled (darn!). SSID is pi07490509x09.
MACs 00A0F858xxxx and 00A0F8A6xxxx. The other regular SSID that pops up in
southern I also received a new radio from smartBridges today
(thanks), and I just want to know one thing. Who requested that they include a
12 inch strip of electrical tape with the sealing tape?! I know we want
everything in one box but how lazy can we get? If this was a SB idea than it
was a nice touch :-) |
