Has anyone noticed an airBridge with fixed IP picking up an IP address of
another PC on the network?

Equipment:

airBridge running 1.07
IP address 192.168.100.202 static (but started thinking it was
192.168.100.80)

Switching Hub 10/100 8 port (ARK CT2208)

Windows 98 PC with smartBridges simpleMonitor software
IP address 192.168.100.135 DHCP allocated

Linux Server running Mandrake 9.1 and SAMBA. Acting as WINS and windows file
server
IP address 192.168.100.80 static

All the above is wired through the hub, no wireless is used between these.

I have been noticing occasional big delays in accessing the webpage on the
Linux Server and in file access. MS Access would also be exceptionally slow
for no aparent reason.

I spotted the problem when I hit SEARCH in simpleMonitor for airBridge. I
saw my locally ethernet connected airBridge show up as 192.168.100.80. I was
able to login to it as 192.168.100.80 and operate it for a while until it
dropped off again. During this time I was having problems reaching the
server on 192.168.100.80 !

I power cycled the airBridge to get it back to it's normal 192.168.100.202
address.

I have changed my switch hub to a different brand. However I seem to
remember noticing this before so I don't think thats the reason. The
airBridge was most definately operating on the wrong IP address. If other
airBridges on the network were to be picking up host addresses from the
network then people would be having all sorts of delays if it was their
address which was cloned.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Wayland.
