Hi Wayland, Never been one for splitters, but esp in this case where one is an omni you might be setting up for man-made multipathing where (from this tx) the secondary signal at the far end receiver is only 8db down on the primary signal. The same sort of mess on the rx side (to this rx) too. Unless v careful with antenna placement I would imagine drop outs and all sorts of very confusing horrors. Do you need the omni or would it be better to use another directional aerial pointing the other way perhaps ?
Two radios would be better in every way except for the resonant cavity left in your wallet ;) It would be really good if sB would comment on % vs real signal strength from a previous posting of mine. By my reckoning 28% should be around 10dB inside their spec for 11Mbps (-84dBm), but most peoples experience would say, like you, that this is % is not good enough. But why not - technically it should be ? I suppose you will be losing bits and pieces in cables and connectors (worse with splitters etc), and it won't take much to lose 5dB each end - easily 2dB each end even with short cables, and then the trees ..... yeah, that fits. Is the link reliable at 1Mbps - can you work with that data rate ? That should give a further 10 db headroom. bw ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wayland Sothcott" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, November 28, 2003 1:12 PM Subject: [smartBridges] Help improving a repeater link please? > OK, it's very unreliable with 28% RSSI. > > We have an APPO access point and an APPO repeater, both with 12db Omni > antennas mounted above chimney height.
