Hi

I'm Steve Loughran, I've been doing the Hadoop stuff. It is very
unstable right now, as

1. I'm still getting it working in bigger clusters

2. I've got to get changes back into Hadoop's codebase. Currently it is
in a branch that is going to live alongside the trunk of Hadoop until
we've merged everything in.

I'm busy trying to get bigger tests/demonstrations working under VMWare
networks for ApacheCon next week; the powerpoint presentations going up
in our SVN repository provide an overview of the features, but, as you
note, aren't enough to help you get up and running

When I come back from ApacheCon, which will be on March 28, I can help
you bring up Hadoop; I'll make a release with the relevant JARs/RPMs,
and take what I've done for tests and start on the documentation.

In the mean time

1. get on the smartfrog-users mailing list and we can start to discuss
it there -that will keep all the information searchable, which will help
other users.

2. Pull down the latest release of SmartFrog and learn your way around
the tool and language without worrying about Hadoop itself. The basic
language and runtime is complicated enough without getting into Hadoop.
Ask for help on the users mailing list.

3. What are you planning to use Hadoop for? As in
  -what size cluster?
-is it to be short-lived clusters of a few hours or days, or to keep
the data safe for months?

Have you been using Hadoop on its own yet?

Thanks,

Steve
