Thank you very much for your help! I really appreciate it !
Some specific requirements that SmartFrog needs to satisfy for my use cases
include:
* Assertion/test/validation. For example, assert jvm.version >= 1.6.0.5.
* Install Application Server (JBoss/Tomcat)
* Install ear/war/jar file (Maven Repo artifact)
* Configure/Tweak XML/Prop configuration files
* Supply configuration files (e.g. Data Sources)
* Likely filter (passwords) to make them environment (dev/qa/prod/dr)
specific
* Parameterized install. For example: install qa
* Multi-OS support
* Windows -> C:\Program Files\JBoss\... ; *NIX -> /opt/jboss/...
* Launch Setup.exe (and Uninstall.exe)
* Version the setup script/components.
* Repeated runs... (If x is installed already, skip to next step...)
* Dependency Management (Y depends on X, so if X is not installed, install
X, then continue).
Q. 1) If you think any of these are not covered with SmartFrog please point it
out.
Q .2) I needs a really good answer for "Why should I use SmartFrog instead of
Ant?" to convince all my IT Teams.
Thanks again for your help and support !
Regards,
Harpreet

Subject: RE: Where is Apache Web Server Example ?
Harpreet,
SmartFrog is an offshoot of an HP Labs research project and licensed under LGPL
but it is not an HP product as such. This means that HP does not provide formal
training or support for it.
However, SmartFrog is an active project and we (the team behind SmartFrog and
its users) do try to be helpful and to respond to questions. Please continue
sending any questions that you could have to the user list so that we can
point you in the right direction.
Best regards,
Julio

Julio,
Thanks you very much for the links. I have a one more question for you , Is the
HP provide support for SmartFrog ?
We are looking for some initial setup or training so that we know that we are
implementing the smartfrog in a right and efficient way.
My company is based in Los Angeles,US & We want to automate all our deployments
in Dev, QA and Production
We are using different OS throughout the company like Linux, Windows and
Solaris.
I couldn't find any supporting email or links on the site.
Regards,
Harpreet Dhanoa

Harpreet,
The dynamic webserver example is included in the example directory as part of
the SmartFrog distribution:
See <dist>\src\org\smartfrog\examples\dynamicwebserver\
Also, you can get access to its documentation directly from SVN:
http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/smartfrog/trunk/core/smartfrog/docs/sfDynamicWebServerExample.pdf
You can also find some extra notes about how to set it up using VMs at:
http://wiki.smartfrog.org/wiki/display/sf/Dynamic+Web+Server

Julio Guijarro.
