Aww sorry - of course we do NOT need it -

this is about controller-side -d sat config
(rather than drive-side ID, e.g. for assigning the set of SMART attributes),
thus USB VID:PID ought to be fully sufficient to reliably identify
that controller.

If you happen to want to submit the smartctl -x log anyway
(good for reference purposes),
then it might be useful to xxxx out some trailing parts of the Serial
Number.
