I've used Etherstubs to create private networks between zones often

Is it possible to assign a persistent VNIC and IP address on an
Etherstub in the global zone?
It should be, though I can't say I've personally done it. You should use
nictagadm add -l <name> to create the etherstub (though nictagadm will
complain a little bit, it'll work). Then just follow the wiki
instructions for adding an additional VNIC to the configuration file:
https://wiki.smartos.org/display/DOC/Managing+NICs#ManagingNICs-Persistingvnicsacrossreboots
That's what I tried, but I couldn't get the VNIC to persist across a
reboot. Is /usbkey/config parsed in a single pass? If so, the
etherstub are defined after the VNICs.
