Greg, I am not sure what exactly you are doing but it is always possible to delegate a dataset after the zone has been created. You simply modify the zone's configuration. You cannot delegate a dataset after the zone is booted since the delegated datasets are passed in during the zone startup in the kernel and there is no API to change that on the running zone. When the zone is rebooted, it will use the latest configuration and get whatever datasets are setup.
