You might take a look at https://github.com/joyent/sdc, which adds many of the 
tools needed to manage collections of machines for HA and other purposes.

SmartDataCenter doesn’t itself offer HA as a service, but 
https://github.com/joyent/manatee demonstrates an SDC-based HA pattern using 
ZooKeeper and ZFS send/receives that’s worth looking at as well. See 
https://github.com/joyent/manatee/tree/master/docs for the docs.

You didn’t mention Docker, but I’d be remiss not to point out this blog post on 
installing experimental Docker support:

Some Docker scheduler and composer tools can be used to automate HA as well.
