Hi,

I'm running a SmartOS based server for my home and family backup+utility+lab
setup. I've recently added a UPS. I've configured NUT
(http://www.networkupstools.org) with the usbhid-ups driver, created SMF
services for the different parts.

The setup is almost complete. I can monitor the UPS, and events are registered
correctly, shutdown is initiated as needed. But the UPS/driver doesn't shutdown
properly. According to the docs for NUT one should add a workaround to force
power-off after filesystems are "safe" (read-only).

The the sections "Testing shutdowns" and "Testing Shutdown":
http://www.networkupstools.org/docs/user-manual.chunked/ar01s06.html#_shutdown_scripts

According to this workaround one should hook a script into the shutdown process
to turn off the power/UPS in case the "killpower" file exists.

I have a hard time figuring out how this would work using SmartOS (SMF), in a
"regular" init-based system you could simply add this script at a suitable
point in the shutdown process.

Any ideas/pointers?

Thanks a lot!
Eric Ripa
