Nahum,
I'm happy to report that the new installer worked perfectly for me. I did a
simple setup with 1 NIC with a RaidZ2 pool of 6 disks (which the installer
suggested automatically). The system booted cleanly after the install.
Is there anything else you'd like me to test?
Thanks
SD

If you want to test the new installer I maintain a bleeding-edge build with
the newer installer.
CD ISO:

Platform tarball (for use with a USB stick):

Using the ISO is straightforward.
If you have a USB stick, you need to move aside the existing "platform"
directory, untar that tarball and rename the "platform-<datestamp>" to
"platform" where the original platform directory was.
If you do try the new installer and it works for you, please let us know
either on the list or on the pull request at

With the unification of SmartOS and SDC platforms, the trick of pre-creating
the zpool prior to installation no longer works.?
There is some work being done on a new installer, but it isn't committed yet.
My trick has been to install SmartOS onto the SLOG disk (an SSD in my case) or
some other disk that I won't be using in the real pool. Then go into rescue
mode, create the proper pool and zfs send the dummy pool to the real one.?

I think this *might* be SmartOS being picky about ?best practice?
configurations.
One possible workaround would be to boot with only a single disk present, do
the install, then reboot with more active disks and customize the ?zones? pool?

Hi,
I'm trying to modify the zones pool to be a RaidZ2 pool. ?I'm following the
instructions here -?SmartOS Clean Re-install - SmartOS Documentation - SmartOS
Wiki
I've booted into the no-install grub option and created the RaidZ2 zones pool.
?However when I reboot and attempt to install SmartOS I get the following
error. ? What would be the correct way to modify the zones pool and still be
able to do a clean install?
