Before I try this, which I believe will work, I just wanted to get an opinion. Presently I have a physical firewall and two physical switches. Right now, I'm thinking of creating an etherstub with three usb ethernet nics attached to it, then I'd cable directly from the firewall to one of the usb nic's, then cable from the other two usb nics to my two internal LAN devices, one a FreeBSD laptop and the other a Windows desktop. This would allow the removal of the physical switch, and later the other physical switch and firewall which would be moved onto the SmartOS machine.
I don't see any reason why this would not work, but if anyone has thoughts otherwise I'd like to hear.
