It is probably failing because Ubuntu init isn't making it far enough to
execute the rc.local script which marks the provisioning complete.  The use of
dhcp for interface configuration is one likely cause.  The LX boot process only
supports static addressing at the moment.

I've seen this with older images, have you tried the latest 20150819
(c8d68a9e-4682-11e5-9450-4f4fadd0936d) image?

But that's not a LX zone - right? Aren't all LX zone images prefixed
by "lx-" in the "imgadm avail" name column? I've been able to get a
KVM zone up and running. Right now I was trying to get a LX zone in an
attempt to use less memory and run faster than a KVM zone.

Some some mysterious reason, Joyent have dropped the lx prefix from the image name. I use

# imgadm show c8d68a9e-4682-11e5-9450-4f4fadd0936d | json type
lx-dataset

to check.

Very same problem: provisioning timeout. I am able to create a KVM zone for
Ubuntu (I just did it), and there's no problem with creation or running it. I
can VNC into it and verify that it's running. I just can't seem to get past the
provisioning issue on a LX zone.

BTW, it's also exhibiting the same behavior with respect to being able to
zlogin into the zone while provisioning is going on. So the zone runs - right
up to the point that it's marked as a failed install.

John

Well, that would certainly explain it. I can force the zone to get up and
running, but I don't have any networking when I do that. Looks like I'll have
to play with it some more....

Thanks,
John
