Jono, FWIW, if you want to run both a local display and SmartOS on a single hardware platform, you could consider VMware ESXi (or whatever it’s called now).
For quite a while I ran ESXi 5.5 with two VMs: one Hackintosh with OS X 10.9 and a GPU in passthru, and the second VM with SmartOS, several LSI HBAs and an Intel NIC in passthru. Worked great. You do need to pay attention which GPUs work properly in passthru, with ESXi and presumably with any other hypervisor that supports passthru. Support in ESXi was mostly inofficial and on a case-by-case basis, as I recall. It worked great - but I would think twice about doing this in production. ;) Best, Chris > Am 25.09.2015 um 03:00 schrieb Jonathan Poff <[email protected]>: > > .... what I'm talking about is device pass-through, as I only want to access > the gpu from a single vm. > > This page doesn't mention SmartOS, but does imply that other VMs can do this. > > > http://acceleware.com/blog/state-gpu-virtualization-cuda-applications-2014 > > I guess I'm wondering if SmartOS offers device pass-through and whether it > would me more or less comparable to these others. > > Cheers, > Jono ------------------------------------------- smartos-discuss Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/184463/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/184463/25769125-55cfbc00 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=25769125&id_secret=25769125-7688e9fb Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
