I think you will have he problem on local disks too.
So, looking at my example, offlinig a local SAS (SCSI) disk should work.
The problem is not bound to MPXIO.
cfgadm doesn't support offlining of scsi (sas) disks in general.
Nervertheless, for me luxadm works.

 We do have users who use us for iSCSI targets.  NexentaStor has done a lot of 
not-yet-upstreamed work in iSCSI, so you may want to consider them as well.
