Snapshots work if you have access to the computer. Right now, for example, I'm out of town, and I can access data on the CrashPlan web site even though internal firewalls keep me from accessing my computer at home.
I'm not trying to be difficult about the lack of this feature. The real point in bringing all of this up wasn't to get somebody to make a special exception for my needs. I was looking for a solution to increase max_user_watches and, if there wasn't one, to bring it to somebody's attention that this value is by applications that SmartOS users might install. IMHO, it's always better to know when a feature is missing because that's a big help in determining how to make a product better. Thanks for everybody's help. It's just that files won't be backed up until CrashPlan does a scan of the file system, which doesn't happen frequently as it can take a long time to do so, especially with a lot of files to look at and compare against. Normally CrashPlan will back up changed files every 15 minutes, so you're insured of a backup. I've had scans that take over 1 hour to complete. Also, CrashPlan has versioning of backed up files, which can be put "at risk" if they aren't backed up except when a full scan is initiated. Given LX zones use native ZFS, can you use snapshots instead? -- Ian. ------------------------------------------- smartos-discuss Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/184463/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/184463/25769125-55cfbc00 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=25769125&id_secret=25769125-7688e9fb Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
