Usually this is a problem within your VM while it is configuring itself. Can you either take a look at, or provide copies of the system-zoneinit:default.log, smartdc-mdata:fetch.log and smartdc-mdata:execute.log files from the zone's /zones/90fcbfe7-e059-424d-b9aa-184aba0cfffb/root/var/svc/log directory? Those are usually where I'd start when trying to determine why a joyent branded zone failed to provision. Hope that helps.
