Ian, Thanks for the quick response. OK, so don't have more than one zpool called zones. And I can use a transient SMF service... defined on the disk that the live boot loads.
But I still don't see how smartos live boot determines where the pools are. What if there are 3 disks, does it scan all 3 looking for zpools and one named "zones"? Does it look at partitions? What if some of those partitions are not part of any zpool (used for Windows or Linux or something else)? I am looking to understand the boot process, how it finds the global zone, and how boot-time configs affect it?
