user [EMAIL PROTECTED] usertag 500993 + config-xglamo thanks Hi Adi!
If you report other bugs, can you follow the instructions at [1] or, more specifically, can you cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] using the X-Debbugs-CC header [2]? I found this bug by chance... How have you started Xglamo? I just tested on a fresh Debian installation and everything works as expected when I launch # invoke-rc.d nodm start or, which is mostly the same, since both nodm and startx are "frontends" to xinit: # xinit # startx I get your error only if I directly call /usr/bin/Xglamo as a normal user, which is AFAIK plainly wrong [3], since the server must be started with root permissions. Indeed neither /usr/bin/Xorg works: ===== [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/root$ /usr/bin/Xorg Fatal server error: Cannot move old log file ("/var/log/Xorg.0.log" to "/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old" [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/root$ ===== For the reasons above, this is not a bug: I'll tag it as wontfix and close it in one week, if no one complains before. > ...on the other hand: is this really necessary? ls -l /usr/bin/Xorg > -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1675980 Sep 30 23:54 /usr/bin/Xorg As I explained in the thread at [4], xserver-xorg-core (which provides /usr/bin/Xorg) is not necessary at all. However, read *carefully* the whole thread if you want to remove it or, better, leave it there (it doesn't do any harm) until bug #502120 [5] is fixed.
