1) neither of the two is installed by default by the Debian script [1]

Well, if you install busybox's alternatives you then need to be very
careful with package upgrades, since AFAIK e.g. installing again
sysklogd will result in the lost of the busybox alternative [4].

Another reason specific to Debian on the FreeRunner has been explained
by Joachim at [5].  A more detailed discussion on busybox alternatives
is available at [6].  Debian bugs #293987 [7], #326243 [8] and #504089
[9] are interesting as well.
