Mplayer plug-in newer worked in Opera. According to Eirik, this has
something to do with gecko-sdk used to build the plugin. I use
Mplayer as a helper application.

Only older versions of mplayer-plugin work, such as the version I have
with Mandrake 10.
Opera only works with Netscape 4.x plugins, not Mozilla plugins. Since the
recent versions are not compiled to work with Netscape 4.x but only Moz,
they don't work in Opera. Eirik did indicate that compiling against the
1.6 version of the plugin SDK would still work, provided they don't have
specific dependencies on version >= 1.7.
Actually, someone tested mplayer-plugin compiled with the "new"
gecko-sdk and found that it worked. He just needed to remove the test
in gecko-sdk which essentially is saying "If the browser does not
claim to be a recent mozilla, refuse to run".
