Hi, I am a Fedora user and use Smslib under linux and Mac OS X (sort
of unix). There are some Ubuntu users too.

I think Thanasis is right, but if you can work with Windows using
Smslib, then you can work with Linux too. The basic instructions for
install SmsLib under linux is here: 
http://code.google.com/p/smslib/wiki/Installation

Read carefuly. There are a few shortcomings choosing the low level
serial communication library (javacomm vs. rxtx), but that is pointed
in documentation too.

When you install all, you will need to know what port in used by your
phone. You must to type the command "dmesg" to know it.
