How about tHis. dedicate a gui control to terminate tHe app (by calling stopService()) after you are done instead of waiting for an enter key event to terminate. THis way it will keep tHe app open to receiving and sending SMS until you click your GUI control (Quit Button). Also wHen sending subsequent messages don't start tHe service again(it will tHrow PortInUseException). THe idea is to start tHe service only once during app startup. Just que tHe messages to your modem and tHey will be sent. I Have done tHis a million tymez and it works fine.
