The thing is is says on the BBC iPlayer site:

BBC iPlayer for iPhone and iPod touch is currently in a beta phase.

To access the site, ensure that you have a wireless internet
connection for your iPhone or iPod touch, then go to BBC iPlayer
homepage. You can Click to Play (stream) any of the programmes
available, but you cannot download at present.

Please note that you will need to keep the wireless connection while
playing a programme.

If you get told to download Flash, try deleting your cookies.

Further help

Specific information for mobile phones and devices can be found in the
Help section when you visit BBC iPlayer on a compatible mobile device.

The Beta phase may explain it!

HOWEVER - GOOD NEWS!! Today, without changing my iPhone, router, Wifi
settings or Internet provider - IT'S WORKING! Just like that :-)

As long as it stays that way I'll be pleased.

Thanks one and all for your thoughts.

Stephen
