Hi Jonathan you can set Aperture to just link the images from whatever disk they're imported from rather than collating them into one library, it's not recommended though as organisationally it makes sense to keep everything in one place. You can get single 1.8TB drives or even 3-4TB RAID systems that connect via firewire800
