This is my point. And I do backup to a little portable disc, which, since a clone, is also bootable, so I can re-invent my computer on another machine. But I would like to back up elsewhere (as well) and I do like the TM cumulative backup (which I don't use when cloning).
It seems to me that to keep updating my TC while travelling is often possible, and generally a good idea. Specially if, like me, you're away for 2 months at a time.
