I've seen many a Mac hard drive with bad block and, more often than
not, when the bad block is encountered the firewire logo will freeze
onscreen and the drive will become unresponsive. This happens
particularly often with iBooks. Removing the hard drive and connecting
it to a caddy has always resolved the issue.
