Hi all,

Something weird going on...

Originally my iTunes a/c was registered against an email of
[email protected]. When I took out my .Mac a/c that was changed to my new
email.

I have just downloaded a trial of Aperture 3 and to download it I logged in as
the Admin user. My iPod was still plugged in on my normal user's a/c and it
said that it was "in use on another computer" or something so I cancelled
iTunes and ignored it.

At some point later, as my normal user, I launched iTunes or plugged my iPod in
or something and iTunes went to sync it. Then (I think!) it came up with a
dialog saying that it needed to authorise my computer or it would zap all of my
iPod touch applications from my iPod. Surprised (to say the least!) I typed in
my current Apple ID and password. It seemed happy with that but then came up
with another dialog telling me that my computer wasn't authorised to play 288
tracks and I had to authorise it or they would be deleted from my iPod.

Now the first track it lists is the very first song I ever downloaded from the
iTunes store with the 'elemental' a/c mentioned earlier. I suspect all 288
tracks were downloaded under that a/c. When I chose to authorise it, the ID it
suggests is [email protected]. This account no longer exists and I have no
idea what the password was anyway. If I Type in my current ID and password it
tells me that my computer is already authorised but then tells me again that my
288 songs will be zapped if I don't authorise it.

So, it seems that I will not be able to sync any new stuff to my iPod and that
I can only seem to resolve it by entering a forgotten password to an Apple ID
which no longer exists!! Problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might resolve this conundrum or do I
take a trip to my friendly Apple store? I suppose I could export all 288 tracks
as MP3 files, delete them all from iTunes and then re-import them as
non-protectd files but that seems a bit tedious to say the least ...

All suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Cheers,

Stephen
