Nigel

Could you say which version of Excel you are using?
And have you created a "custom" format for the currency?
There must be some reason for the problem, but from your description it does seem weird.

What do you mean by "re-instating" the £ sign?
Altering or creating a custom number format?
Using Format/Number/Currency on the relevant cells?
Or anything else?

If you tell me what you have done, I have various versions of Excel available to double check it for you.

Help smuggers.

I have a spreadsheet open and have formatted cells to show currency as UK sterling to 2 decimal places.

When I re-open the doc. a dollar sign has been substituted for the pound sign.

Have tried clearing all formatting, re-instating £ sign, saving, but on close and re-open $ showing....?

Any clues

TIA

Nigel
