Hi SUMGers - haven't been on here for ages I've been having problems with my iMac for about 3-6 months, with lots of crashes, hangs, won't close down, and recently graphics issues - dead pixels that aren't dead as they appear in different places, strange chuncks of window graphics overlaying corners of windows, and lines of pixels running across the screen (static, not moving that is!). I hasten to add that these are not all the time, ust 2-3 times a day. and the crashes were getting to be 2-3 times an hour!!! So I rebuilt from the ground upwards, backing all my data, installing OS from scratch (not from a timemachine backup!), installed all the correct software from scratch, formated them the way I use them with toolbars etc, havecheckd all my data on the backup with ClamXav and TechTools, and have just brought most of it back onto the iMac. Problem is the issues are back - in fact they started not long after the OS install, before anything elsewas back on here... I do feel like I have just wasted the past 6 days!
Can anyone give me any ideas - I am aware that some iMacs have issues with graphics cards... If necessary is it straightforward for installing a new one? and can it be done by yourself? Maybe it'snot even a graphics card issue - maybe the screen? They joy of an integrated Mac and screen!!! My set up is: May 2006 Intel Core Duo 20" iMac 2 Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, OS 10.6.3, and a Samsung SyncMaster T220 hooked up through an Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter input cable. I'd rather not have to buy a new Mac - honest! hehe... certainly my back ballance would rather not anyway! Hope someone can help Regards Liam -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Sussex Mac User Group" group.
