For the text I receive, to avoid losing ends of paragraphs, (if you remove
all the paragraph marks you will just get one long text block), I search for
two paragraph marks next to each other in Word (looks like - ^p^p) and
change them to two asterisks **, I then change every paragraph mark to a
space repeat the replace until no paragraph marks are left to change I
then do a final search and replace on the ** and change them back to single
paragraph breaks ³^p² to restore the original paragraphs.

Which method you use depends on how the text is messed up.

Subject: [sussex_mug] Stripping Out Carriage Returns

All,

Does anybody know of an application that will strip out unnecessary carriage
returns in a Word (or rtf or text) document. A translator has supplied me
some copy in which they've inserted lots of unnecessary carriage returns,
presumably in order to make the column width look like the finished document
layout. Of course it's now a painful nightmare to drop the new text into
InDesign.
