You can erase and reinstall, the recovery partition is only 650MB but it downloads the necessary files from Apple to reinstall OS X, if you don't have a high-speed connection then get comfortable!
If you have made a boot disk from the InstallESD.dmg then you can perform a wipe/reinstall without downloading anything.
