Hi all,

Many thanks for the info on Diskwarrior. I purchased it (and a firewire 800
cable which was not easy to find locally) and tried to run the repair using
Target Disk Mode. Initially the drive refused to repair saying there was a
hardware error, but after leaving it attached for 30 mins the status changed
and it said the repair was possible.

The repair took about 30 mins and the log showed lots of errors that were
fixed. Initially the machine ran fine, but over the last day or so it has
started locking up again for 30 secs to 5 mins at a time before becoming
responsive again.

I think the time has come to get the drive replaced.

I would rather support a local, independent repairer if possible, so any
suggestions on the best place to take it for repair?

Many thanks,
