Did you import it into a calendar that's on your Mac or on iCloud? If it's on your Mac, it won't sync. If it's on iCloud it will.
When you import the ics file, it'll ask where you want to import (or a new calendar). Best thing is to create the new calendar in the iCloud account (File > New Calendar > iCloud) then import the .ics file into that calendar.
