Try going to your home folder> library > move the safari folder onto the 
desktop, then open safari.

If that doesn't work it could be a font issue. You can use Font Book in the 
applications to temporarily disable the fonts in your user's library. Open Font 
Book then click on User in the top left, select all the visible fonts and go to 
file > disable. Reopen Safari and test.

Let me know if either helps. Undo the change if not!
