Hi Tilly If the account is managed to only allow certain Apps to run, you'll need to go to System Preferences > Parental Controls > click the padlock and type your admin username & password > manage the settings there.
You can then just go into Macintosh HD > Applications > drag Firefox to the dock (assuming you have already copied it from the downloaded .dmg disk image into the Applications folder).
