Pressing pause should work.

Hmmm.   Try stopping the app.  Swipe up with 4 fingers or double tap the
home button, get it so you can see itunes.  Then touch AND HOLD till it
starts doing a wiggle, press the x in the top left.  That will turn
off/reset the app.

If that doesn't work, try resetting the ipad:  press and hold both the
power button and the home button for 5-10 seconds until it both switches
off and the apple symbol appears, then let go and wait.
