Is anyone knowledgeable about problems involving HDMI cables / "content protection" on TV and films?? After maybe a couple of years of effortlessly watching recorded films etc from my Apple TV box, BT box and DVD player I can now watch almost nothing. It all began when BT sent me their upgraded "YouView" (Humax) box which required an HDMI cable connection. The previous BT box had used a scart. My Samsung TV is an early version and only has one HDMI socket (which I used for my Apple TV and Samsung Blu-Ray player - plugging and unplugging the leads). I bought a DVD "splitter" to connect the 3 devices. Catastrophe.
First the Blu Ray stopped. It's now with some Eastbourne electronics firm who are communicating with John Lewis about the cost of fixing it. Then strange things happened. To cut a long story short, I continually get an error message telling me that I can't watch a movie because "Content Protection is not enabled" and "Content requires HDCP". This happens when I try to watch movies on TV that I have purchased or recorded on iTunes; Catch up programmes from the YouView box, ITV channels, Channel 4. The YouView box has an error message which directs me to a website which instructs me to turn everything off and on again (Router, all devices, Powerline plugs etc.) It also suggests changing HDMI cables and seeing if that works. Nothing works. On Apple TV most things work - photos, music etc. I can perform AirPlay mirroring (unless it's a film)but I cannot play movies. BT, the Splitter box company, John Lewis are all very polite but suggest that it's the others' fault or my fault........
