Actually, when the instant pontification subsides I believe many will realise
that Apple is getting into exciting new territory once more.

The Watch ecosystem is going to become huge, even if the first iteration of
wearable devices from Apple do not sell in their trillions. Aren’t we seeing
the emergence of something that has been fictionally described for almost 50
years come to pass?

If I didn’t already have an iPhone 5S I’d be in a queue for an iPhone 6 Plus.
However I think that next year Apple will provide an updated replacement for a
4 inch screen phone and this is what I wait for. it isn’t the size but the
capability that matters.

iOS 8 didn’t get too much exposure but it is another big step forward for the
smartphone/tablet ecosystem. And iPads didn’t get any love at all - yet!

Yosemite plus Mac upgrades also missing in action at present. You can infer
something from this.

To me the big news is that Apple is moving towards becoming a huge services
provider - media first, apps second, payments third. Horace Dediu has already
opined that Apple scraping a few cents off of every transaction made via Apple
Pay will amount to billions of dollars of more or less bottom line profit.
Perhaps not one’s 1980’s idea of Apple but certainly one for the 21st Century.

I also infer that the ‘i’something naming strategy is on its way out. I think
we will see the emergence of a line of devices in screen size terms comprising
5cm, 10cm, 15cm, 20cm, 25cm, 30cm, and 50cm. The smaller will have touch/voice
input. The larger with touch/voice/and optionally key/stylus input. All
offering a significantly similar core UI with a lot more Apple Cloud services
(did you notice that Apple dropped the cloud storage prices yesterday?).

Lastly I regarded the U2 appearance and album freebie as a closure with Steve’s
past. Old rockers never die, their reverbs fade to nothing!
