Hi all,

I'm the kind of person who keeps loads of files and likes to know how to find
them again. To this end I bought Leap several years back (
http://www.ironicsoftware.com/leap/ ) which is a sort of souped up Finder in
some ways. I wasn't really happy with it, despite liking many of its concepts
and stopped using it in the end. Several months ago, after looking around at
available apps, decided to buy Eagle Filer ( http://c-command.com/eaglefiler/
). I liked the idea of the app but found it quite sluggish in use, especially
when scrolling the results list and I became less enthusiastic with each
passing week.

My reason for all this is because I've just spent some time with a trial of
Houdahspot ( http://www.houdah.com/houdahSpot/ ) and I'm a convert and wanted
to pass on the good news. You can download a free trial and see for yourself
but basically, you search on the fly or create search documents which you can
save if you want for later recall. It requires no file changes or rearrangement
or indexing as it uses your current Spotlight index. You can use it as easily
as Apple's Spotlight (with a shortcut) which looks just like the new Yosemite
search box but the results look very different. It allows the creation of
searches as complex as you could ever want or as simple as typing a few words
in a box! It has listings, quick look and info panes and is full of very well
thought out touches that make it clear that much thought has gone into it. Not
only that, but it's lightning fast in the searching and scrolling department,
leaving Eagle Filer in the dust in that respect. And only $29.

That's it. As they say, I have no connection with the company, just that I
thought it was so brilliant I wanted to spread the love, having never heard of
it until a couple of days ago. And the icon is fun! :-)

Cheers,

Stephen
