You can do it in Disk Utility, exactly how depends on your version of OS X,
what are you running?

Ok looks like the 960GB SanDisk Ultra II.
But the info on the external has got me really confused. Even reading about it
I still don't know what to do. Can I do it from Disk Utility.

I'd go for a 960GB SanDisk Ultra II or Crucial BX200. To fit into a MacBook Pro
is only about half an hour's labour, plus cloning time which I don't charge for
as I go and watch a film ;)

For the external drive I'd repartition using the gpt partitions scheme which is
default for macs usually but if the drive's already partitioned in MBR then
disk utility wouldn't change it unless asked to.

Hi Sam, been thinking about that as I noticed you've suggesting this previously.

The full story is that I want to install win 10 but scared to delete 7 & XP so
just want to move them of the HD but still have them usable to get something
I've not transferred.

I googled 960GB SSD and found prices around £200 but I don't know what to get
for my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)

What would you fit?
And how should I Format this Iomega drive.

Regards Michael

Why not just install a bigger drive in your MacBook? Running a vm on an
external usb2 drive will make it much slower. You could go the whole hog and
install a 960GB SSD and have a faster Mac overall.
