Hi Jason,

I saw all those pages as well, and followed the instructions without success. I 
eventually found a site that suggested holding down shift, option and command 
whilst starting up the Mac. About a minute after booting up a message appeared 
briefly on the desktop saying the mouse had connected and it began to work 
perfectly.
