Hi Sam

I wonder if you have time to advise me with my latest disaster?

I have had a WD My Cloud Home drive for some time. Just this last week it
cease to work. I can’t access my files through the usual means, in fact I
can’t access them at all. I contacted WD and they said:

*“We are currently experiencing a service interruption that is preventing
files access and use of the applications provided for your product,
including the mobile, desktop, and web apps. During this service
interruption, you may now access files stored locally on your device using
a feature called Local Access”*

I said I need to get at my files for my work. They published two methods of
accessing the WD My Cloud drive. One, through the IP address and one using
a hostname. Neither work. Strange things happened. eg as I typed in the
hostname my keys typed % 20 instead of -. I have checked that I have the
right GB keyboard switched on. When I attempted to use the IP address
similarly bizarre things happened.

I’m at a loss and I need to get at my files. To me this is an existential
failure of their product. I bought it for the very reason that I needed a
safe place for my files, accessible from anywhere. WD themselves have done
something which have prevented me from accessing my own files.
