Episode 1 Air Date: 09/24/2003 The newest installment of The Bachelor begins with a behind-the-scenes look at how the show went about finding the 25 bachelorettes out of the tens of thousands that applied, followed by an in-depth look at the real Bob — not just the cut-up from The Bachelorette you thought you knew. We get to see Bob's childhood photos, see him as valedictorian of his high school and in uniform as quarterback at Michigan State, and we get to meet his business partner. The show then goes on the road, to surprise all 25 bachelorettes with the news that they've been chosen to be on The Bachelor. The ladies then all travel to L.A. to meet the possible man of their dreams. Before Bob gets to meet the women vying to be his bride, he sits down with Chris to talk a little bit about how he is approaching this process. They talk a little bit about how Bob is in a completely different place than any other Bachelor, as he has been married and divorced. Bob talks about how he still loves his ex-wife, and that she's still a great person, but that things sometimes just happen. Bob also says that he doesn't have a particular look in mind for the future Mrs. Guiney, but that he does know she needs to have a personality. The interview complete, Chris takes Bob out front to meet the bachelorettes. The First Party The ladies arrive and the greetings begin. After all 25 women are in the house, Bob joins them, and the party begins. Bob says hello to the group, and immediately starts putting the girls at ease with his sense of humor. He toasts them all, and starts to get to know them. The girls begin to feel the competition, as time with Bob is short. The girls start to interrupt each other for the chance to steal Bob for a few precious minutes. Bob starts to realize how hard it is to be The Bachelor, and comments that it is going to be a lot harder to pick the first 15 women than he originally thought. With Kelly Jo, Bob gets his first kiss of the show, when she asks if she can have one. After the brief kiss, she tells him that there is more to come. Misty gets upset when she has to share her time getting to know Bob with someone else, and is then interrupted by Estella, who steals Bob away. Eventually, Bob gets together with the whole group of women, when Chris interrupts witht he news that there are going to be several surprises ths season, and the first one is upon them — Bob's mother Nora is there to help Bob make his decision. Bob was surprised, but happy to see her there. Nora wastes no time with the women, asking all of them in-depth questions. Nora confides to us that she hopes the next Mrs. Guniey is in the house. Lee-Ann is nervous that she is not going to get a rose, and asks Nora for help, as she's not aggressive and old-fashioned. After getting to spend time with almost everyone, Bob takes his mother aside for a chance to talk with her. She tells him that she really likes Kristin, Lee-Ann and Karin, and advises him to pick the women he gets along with best. Bob then walks his mother to the door and kisses her good-bye. Chris ends the party and brings Bob to the deliberation room. Chris asks how things went, and Bob is a little down that he didn't get to know everyone as well as he would have liked. Bob also says he was touched how all of the women reacted to him when they first saw him. He says Lee-Ann, Estella, Julie, Karin, Shea all impressed him coming out of the limo. About the kiss with Kelly Jo, he thought it was just a moment. Bob tells Chris there were definitely some women he connected with. Chris heads out to brief the ladies on the Rose Ceremony, and leaves Bob to make his decision. The Rose Ceremony After the formalities of the ceremony are presented, Chris collects Bob. Bob thanks them for all taking the time to be with him, and asks them if they can bear with him while he takes things one step at a time. He then offers roses to Kelly Jo, Lee-Ann, Misty, Lindsay K., Kristi, Mary, Jennifer, Karin, Brooke, Estella, Antoinette, Meredith, Jenny, Lanah, and Lindsay D.. |
