I would say adultery would be *worse*....but if there is no biblical reason for divorce, that God wouldn't hold someone *innocent* for disolveing the marriage.
 
Hence the "what therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder" statement...
 
While divorce isn't God's perfect plan, especially if there is no biblical reason for one to begin with, IMO it would however be better than committing adultery.  In some cases, it would be the "lesser" of two evils....
