Well, I think that there is a huge difference between cheating on someone that is alive and alert living next you at home and someone who it can be argued for all intent and purposes is dead.
 
I would not expect Alex to stay alone for 13 years. But then of course I would haunt him from the grave if he left me alive like that for that long. Lol.
